Junonia Women Race for the Heart

Heart disease is so prevalent among women today that it is currently our number one killer, contributing to more deaths than "AIDS, breast cancer and lung cancer combined," a frightening thought for mothers, daughters, sisters and friends.

Because Junonia is committed to administering the active lives of women sizes 14 and up, we are also cosponsoring the Guidant Heart of Summer 5k and 10k Walk and Run this summer. Contrary to popular belief, you can be an active, healthy woman and wear plus size clothing styles. That is why Junonia is contributing to a walk and run mission that will educate women on the value of staying active throughout their lives.

An "Athena" category is available for the full figured woman in the 10k run so that nobody is left out. In fact, we are so enthusiastic about more women participating that Junonia will be handing out pedometers at an event at the Mall of America Rotunda on August 18th for the race. On this day, you will also receive your Guidant Race Packet. We hope that these pedometers help you to reach your daily walking goal not only on the day of the event, but for each day following.

Junonia also wants to encourage plus size women to strive to win! To the First Place finisher in each age group of the Athena category, we will award a $100 gift certificate towards Junonia merchandise so that you can continue to lead an active lifestyle in the best of plus size fashions.

The Run and Walk will take place at the scenic Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis, and all are encouraged to attend. We would love for you to share your stories with us, and perhaps contribute to our Community Forum with your inspiring experience.

To help you prepare for the big day, Guidant is hosting a series of training sessions, held over the course of about 8-10 weeks. This will not only help to get a little closer to winning a Junonia gift certificate, but it will also train you to lead a more active life.
