In desperation, I bought a pair of large men's pants. That was interesting every time I had to climb over a fence! They held and I was really grateful for them when it rained (which it did, every day) but I would have given a lot to have a pair that actually fit a woman's body. I'm not talking about pants to keep me warm. I'm talking about a shell, something to keep me dry in otherwise warm weather.

I would also like to find a pair of zip-leg pants for hiking for a woman with real hips. As you know, I am not going to find them at REI or Hudson Trail or anywhere else that specializes in "technical" gear. Any chance of y'all offering something like that in the year(s) to come?

Thanks for writing. I know I mention it in just about every blog entry, but I really do love it when our customers let us know what types of clothing they want from Junonia. We put a lot of time and money into researching what kinds of apparel we should be developing, but sometimes it takes a note from "the field" to point us in the right direction.

At the moment, we can address your two issues separately. We recently introduced a collection of knit sport pants for women with different lower body shapes, including full-hip, full waist/slim back, straight-leg and all-around options. As we hear more customer reactions to these items, we may expand our body type-based apparel to include other styles.

As for the waterproof pants, we currently don't offer anything quite to your specifications, but you may wish to give our Stretch Microfiber Zip-Off Convertible Pants a try. Made from a water-repellant fabric, they're lightweight enough for hiking and convert easily into shorts or capri pants for warmer weather.

Yours is not the first request we've heard for more waterproof bottoms. We've actually offered waterproof styles in the past, and this is definitely an item we'll be looking at carefully in the months to come. We're currently researching multi-purpose, breathable, waterproof fabrics that can be worn in any weather. In the meantime, keep your requests and suggestions coming. Junonia is an ever-evolving company, and we need customer input to continue crafting clothing that keeps plus size women ahead of the active wear curve.
