Adapting to an active lifestyle can be somewhat
tricky. Figuring out a daily routine works well
for some people, but for others thinking about
“exercising” switches off any enthusiasm for
getting your body to move. While you may have
discovered that shopping for your activewear can

found that exercising with the mentality that
you want to lose weight can also take you off
course.

you to lose weight. In fact, a recent study by
the journal Sex Roles found that women who
participate in physical activities for fun and
to maintain a healthy lifestyle spend 40 percent
more time exercising that those who do so for a
“body shape motive.” In other words, women who
exercise with to lose weight actually exercise
less at the end of the week than a woman who is
doing it for “stress relief, to feel energized,
to be stronger…and for a better sense of
well-being.”
The study confirms the idea that if you don’t
enjoy the exercise you’re doing, there is a
small chance you will continue with it. Women
who choose activities based on losing weight
will most likely choose the ones that burn X
amount of calories, and will only take part in
these activities as long as they see
improvements in weight. The study calls this
practice a “recipe for eventually quitting.”
During an age where everyone is so busy with
work and family, the last thing women have time
for is an activity they don’t like. There are so
many more activities available besides running
or hitting the gym on an unexciting set
schedule. For example, pair up with another
Junonia woman and begin walking! It’s an
